Personal Fitness Records

This time last year the max amount of weight I could bench press was 115lb.

Today I can bench 155lb.

And my max speed on flats is 27.8 mph now (without being overcome with a deep deep desire to vomit into the wind, all over myself). I stopped riding in my middle chain ring. It was prudent for commuting but I think it was hurting me fitness wise. If I'm going to commute 5 miles a day I might as well try to get some benefit out of it.

2009 Look 596 : TT and Track Bikes

Continuing on my week long binge of high end bikes (damn you AToC!) I have here the 2009 Look TT and Track Bikes. The TT is available at Wheelworks here in Davis - if possible I think it looks even more magnificent in person.

My New Love Affair - Felt F3 SL

Now to figure out how to scrounge up $4000 by the end of the year - that and clock in a few thousand miles on my Trek so that I actually deserve it. Also on the prerequisites is joining the cycling club out here in Davis and start trying races.

Felt F95 - Garmin Slipstream

F95 looks like their lower end road frame. An all aluminum frame, but I have to admit it's a pretty neat paint job - give my orange duotone a run for its money. MSRP - $850

Amgen Tour of California: Stage 3 - Leipheimer Crash

Levi Leipheimer crashed today. The man's a beast, took this fall and got right back on his bike afterwards. He still holds the leader's jersey.

Amgen Tour of California: Stage 1 Davis to Santa Rosa

Cold, wet, and windy just about describes my morning. I got out to Central Park around 9:30 and hunkered down near the start to watch the start of Stage 1. It started to rain pretty hard around 12. I was near an entry point for riders, but I guess Astana must have slipped through the back and I wasn't at a good vantage point to see Leipheimer and Armstrong on stage. The best I got was a blurry photo of Armstrong walking off stage. I was, however, able to see Landis, Boonan, Basso, and Hamilton though.

Other than that, I was very eager to get back home. My fingers were starting to numb. I was picking up my bike from the bike parking people. When I told them which bike was mine, the girls went off about how my bike was beautiful. I guess they're right, the orange paint job is pretty nice. I gave them a dollar donation for the comment :)

Swag: An Amgen Tour cowbell, and another Livestrong poster.

Hm, now I have to decide whether to go with Thomas to Sausalito tomorrow for Stage 3...decisions decisions...

Edit: Oh yes, and the news of the day: 3 Astana road bikes and Armstrong's time trial bike (one of a kind) was stolen this morning at 5am. What an asshat!

Edit2: Amgen Live Tour Tracker EPIC FAIL.

Amgen Tour of California: Prologue

So I made it out to Sacramento for the Amgen Tour Prologue today. One of the first things I was surprised about was how central a figure Lance Armstrong was for the entire event. There were multiple LiveStrong booths, and a small army of volunteers canvasing the crowds, handing out posters, chalk, and T-shirts (sadly, I couldn't get the last one). If you look at some of the photos, you'll see even the race organizers obviously wanted to make Lance's return a central theme of the event. I can only begin to wonder what people like Cancellara  and Leipheimer felt about all the Armstrong hype. Oh, and yes, I did get to see Lance Armstrong riding with Astana - I didn't wait around to see his time trial though.

I also got to ride one of Shimano's bikes that was outfitted with their Di2 electric shifting. I have to say, it was pretty neat. The shifting, as you can imagine, is quite fluid. No skipping, no cross chaining, and no delay. Every shift was perfect. Of course, I have little to compare it to - that Shimano bike was probably the most expensive bike my ass has ever touched.

I took a picture of some guy on a Cinelli. He's decked out in vintage Cinelli stuff. It was an interesting sight to see him chatting up the Mavic guys.

Other than a lot of super expensive bikes, a lot of super strong racers, and thousands upon thousands of cycling fans and enthusiasts, there was a bunch of swag to be had. I managed to score some boxes of chalk, some posters, a Livestrong bracelet, several energy drinks and jelly beans, a water bottle, free Chiptle burritos, a backpack, and some leg ties (finally!). I also got some HerbalLife samples. Their nutritional shakes are pretty damn good.

Anyways, can't wait till tomorrow when the tour makes its way through Davis!

Amgen Tour of California

Now that my week is practically over for school, I can sit back and look forward to Saturday and Sunday. The Amgen Tour of California is coming through Sacramento and Davis - so on Saturday I'm going to head up to Sacramento (bike if it's nice out, Amtrak if it isn't). Then on Sunday I hope to bike towards Winters and watch the first stage. Anyone else down?

I wish I was as smart and creative and amazing as these guys... what a show - Being Brad

Got this through BeingBrad, I figured some of you guys might not be subscribed to him and wouldn't see this. I thought it was super cool - I hope this exhibit makes its way down to SF Moma

First Bike Accident of the Year

Was dicking around on my road bike and not paying attention. Lots of gore (just cut up and a minor wrist sprain). Bike is fine though :) Only thing really hurt is my ego - but given how rough January has been, a hurt ego is the least of my worries.
